ARTIST STATEMENT

Layers & Myth is Jillian Wu’s most recent series of paintings. These series were meant to capture the essence of oral tradition where stories are handed down from generation to generation and never forgotten. Cultural identity and the legends that encompass the spirit of Thailand are expressed through feminine energy. Perhaps one can feel a transient nature of this collection, painted during travels in Jaipur, Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

Layers & Myth เป็นภาพเขียนชุดล่าสุดของจิลเลียน วู ภาพชุดเหล่านี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อรวบรวมสาระสำคัญของประเพณีการบอกเล่าถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวจากรุ่นสู่รุ่น ที่ไม่เคยถูกหลงลืมไป     เอกลักษณ์ทางวัฒนธรรมและตำนานเหล่านี้ซึ่งล้อมรอบจิตวิญญาณของความเป็นไทยได้ถูกถ่ายทอดออกมาผ่านพลังแห่งความเป็นผู้หญิง

บางทีผู้ได้รับชมผลงานเราอาจรู้สึกถึงธรรมชาติของความเปลี่ยนแปลงอันเป็นอนิจจังของภาพชุดเหล่านี้ซึ่งศิลปินได้วาดขึ้นระหว่างการเดินทางในชัยปุระ ประเทศอินเดีย ในเชียงใหม่ และกรุงเทพมหานคร

The feminine essence – she exists within my soul. Like a mother, she whispers stories about her past, her biggest fears, dreams, and memories. She make a tale of and soothes me to sleep, sending me pieces of comfort through feathers, patterns and lights. She answers through water: she is my guiding light.
